What Is PDF Compare?

PDF Compare extracts the text from two PDF files and shows a line-by-line diff — highlighting added, removed, and unchanged lines. Useful for reviewing document revisions, contract changes, or report updates. All processing happens locally in your browser.

How to Use

  1. Upload the original PDF on the left.
  2. Upload the revised PDF on the right.
  3. Click "Compare" to see the diff.
  4. Green lines are additions, red lines are removals, grey lines are unchanged.

Features

  • Line-by-line text diff using LCS algorithm
  • Color-coded: green = added, red = removed, grey = unchanged
  • Summary of total additions and removals
  • 100% client-side — your PDFs never leave your device
  • Works with any text-based PDF

FAQ

Does it compare images or layout?

No, it compares extracted text content only. Visual layout differences are not detected.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. All processing is done entirely in your browser using PDF.js. Your files never leave your device.

Why are scanned PDFs not supported?

Scanned PDFs contain images rather than text. OCR is required to extract text from them, which this tool does not perform.
