What Is EXIF Metadata?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in JPEG photos by cameras and smartphones. It stores camera make and model, lens, exposure settings, date/time, artist, copyright, and optionally GPS coordinates. This tool lets you read, edit, or strip that metadata entirely — all in your browser, with no server upload.

  • Strip all EXIF metadata in one click
  • 100% browser-based — your image never leaves your device

FAQ

Why should I strip EXIF before sharing photos?

Photos taken with a smartphone often contain GPS coordinates that reveal exactly where the photo was taken. Stripping EXIF before posting publicly protects your location privacy.

Does editing EXIF affect image quality?

No. Only the metadata segment is modified. The image pixel data (JPEG compressed stream) is copied byte-for-byte without re-encoding, so there is zero quality loss.

Why is JPEG only?

EXIF is defined as part of the JPEG APP1 segment standard. PNG and WebP use different metadata formats (iTXt/XMP) that are not covered by this tool.
