What Is EXIF Data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in JPEG photos by cameras and smartphones. It records technical details like camera model, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and — if location services were enabled — GPS coordinates. This tool reads that metadata directly in your browser without uploading the file anywhere.

How to Use

  • Drop or select a JPEG image (JPG files taken with a camera or smartphone)
  • The EXIF metadata is displayed instantly in grouped sections
  • If GPS data is present, a decimal coordinate and map link are shown

Features

  • Reads camera make, model, and lens information
  • Shows exposure settings: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length
  • Extracts GPS coordinates and links to Google Maps
  • 100% client-side — your photo never leaves your device
  • No external library dependencies — pure browser DataView parsing

FAQ

Why is no EXIF data showing for my image?

PNG, WebP, and GIF files don't carry EXIF data. Screenshots and images edited and re-saved by many apps also strip EXIF. Only JPEG files from cameras and smartphones typically contain EXIF metadata.

Can I use this to check if my photos contain GPS data before sharing?

Yes. Drop the image and check the GPS section. If coordinates appear, the file contains location data. You can use an image editor to strip EXIF before sharing.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. All parsing is done in your browser using the File API and DataView. The image bytes never leave your device.
