FAQ
What is a good Flesch Reading Ease score?
60–70 is considered plain English, suitable for most adults. Scores above 80 are very easy (children's books). Scores below 30 are very difficult (academic papers).
How accurate is syllable counting?
The syllable counter uses a heuristic algorithm that is accurate for most common English words. Unusual words, proper nouns, and abbreviations may be miscounted, which can slightly affect scores.
How many sentences does SMOG need?
SMOG is most accurate with 30 or more sentences. For shorter texts, the score is extrapolated and may be less reliable.
