What Is a Hours Calculator?

A hours calculator computes the total time worked between a start time and end time, optionally subtracting a break. You can add multiple time entries (e.g. different days or shifts) and get the total hours in both hours:minutes and decimal format. Useful for timesheets, freelance billing, and payroll.

How to Use

  • Enter start and end times in HH:MM format (24-hour or 12-hour both work)
  • Optionally enter a break duration in minutes
  • Add more rows for multiple shifts or days
  • Total hours and decimal equivalent are shown at the bottom

Features

  • Supports overnight shifts (e.g. 22:00 to 06:00)
  • Break time subtracted per entry
  • Multiple entries for weekly timesheet totals
  • Decimal hours for billing (e.g. 7.5 hours)

FAQ

How do I enter times?

Use HH:MM format, e.g. 09:00 for 9am, 17:30 for 5:30pm, 22:00 for 10pm. Overnight shifts are handled automatically — if end time is earlier than start time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight.

What is decimal hours?

Decimal hours express time as a fraction of an hour. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes = 7.50 decimal hours. This format is commonly used for billing and payroll calculations.

Can I calculate a full week?

Yes. Add one row per day (Monday through Friday, for example) and the total at the bottom will sum all entries.
