What is a Grade Calculator?

A grade calculator helps students compute their weighted average grade across multiple assignments, quizzes, and exams. By entering each component's score and weight (percentage contribution to the final grade), you can instantly see your current standing, letter grade, and GPA equivalent — helping you plan what scores you need on remaining work.

How to Use the Grade Calculator

  1. Enter each assignment or exam as a row with a name, score (out of 100), and weight
  2. Weights represent the percentage each component contributes to your final grade
  3. Add as many rows as needed with the "Add Row" button
  4. The weighted average, letter grade, and GPA are calculated instantly

Features

  • Weighted average grade calculation across unlimited components
  • Standard letter grade scale (A through F with +/- grades)
  • GPA equivalent on the 4.0 scale
  • Weight total indicator to ensure weights add up to 100%
  • Skips empty rows — enter only the grades you have so far

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the weights have to add up to 100?

Ideally yes, but the calculator still works if they don't. It normalizes by the total weight you've entered. For example, if you only enter two components worth 50% each, the average is calculated proportionally across those two.

Can I enter scores above 100 (extra credit)?

Yes — the score field accepts any number. Enter 105 for a 105% score with extra credit, and it will be factored into the weighted average accordingly.

What GPA scale does this use?

This calculator uses the standard U.S. 4.0 GPA scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F = 0.0. Some institutions may use slightly different cutoffs.
